So tell me what you want

Here is a fantastic post about situations when students don’t know what they want, and how we can help them. Luke, the author of the blog, tells a few stories that sound too familiar (‘I hate this topic!’ or ‘Please correct all my mistakes’) and suggests that often students are affected by their prior experience or simply do not know ‘what is on offer’. In addition to a simple needs analysis, he lists several other ways to find out what students want and negotiate the lesson or course with them. My favourite is the cauldron, but sometimes playing the dictator is not so bad either!
